What's in my Camera Bag
Hey there! Remember me? I used to make blog posts about stuff other than the weddings and sessions I photograph, but I fell off of blog writing. In an attempt to get back in the swing of things, I'd like to show you what's in my camera bag!
First lets start with the bag that I use. I have a rolling "suitcase" type bag that I take to weddings to carry all the extra stuff I need for weddings, but for smaller sessions such as newborn and engagement sessions, I use the Betsy Chocolate bag from Jo Totes. Its really great and easy to access in a pinch, and has plenty of compartments for all the lenses I carry, as well as miscellaneous items I need during the session.
Canon EOS 6D
This was the first camera I got when I started my business full time 3 years ago, and it has been an incredible camera for me. It's lightweight, cranks out some beautiful photos, and reliable as hell. I'm currently looking into getting the new Canon EOS 6D Mark II as a second camera, but I haven't pulled the trigger just yet.
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens
This lens is on my camera 80% of the time; it's one of my "holy grail" type lenses. The 50mm length is just so ideal for portraits, which makes it so irreplaceable.
Sigma 35mm F1.4 ART DG HSM Lens
I love this camera for wider shots and for newborn photos, because it allows me to get what I need to in the frame without having to back up to get everything in the frame. The reason why I chose Sigma instead of Canon for this lens is just because I read reviews on both lenses and people seemed to love the Sigma's photo quality over the Canon.
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Lens
This is definitely my least used lens in my bag, but that doesn't mean its not a great lens. I like using this lens when I put a couple in a pose and I want to step away and let them interact with one another without me being super close to them. It allows me to be able to back up a little bit and still get beautiful close shots. It also has the best focus of all three of these lenses, which makes it a great lens to have on me.
Lowepro SD Memory Card Wallet w/ extra memory cards
I love this wallet because I can fit all 10 of my extra memory cards in it comfortably, and that means I dont have memory cards floating all over my bag when I get home. I always have this huge fear of coming home from a wedding and missing a memory card with half the wedding on it, and this wallet makes it so that I don't have that problem.
Chapstick
I dont even feel like I need to explain this one. Having chapped lips is one of the worst feelings, especially if I can't do anything about it for a few hours. I dont have anything special, just some minty Blistex.
Business Cards
I have these in my rolling bag but I also like to have a couple in my shoulder bag, so that I can pull it out if I'm talking to a wedding guest or if I'm finishing up a maternity session and they mention they have a friend who needs a photographer for something. Its just nice to have on hand, I feel more professional when I don't have to shuffle around for a business card.
Extra Camera Battery
I'm always afraid that the battery in my camera is going to fail in some way, so I always have a fully charged extra battery on hand.
43" 5-in-1 Circular Reflector
This is really awesome for newborn sessions, if I'm by a window and I need more light on the baby, I can just put this reflector on the side opposite of the window, and I instantly have more light without a flash. This is also helpful if I'm taking photos of wedding details and I dont have full shade, I can create shade by putting the reflector in the way of the sun. I don't use this in every session, but it's really handy to have on me if I need it.
And that's it! If you're a photographer, comment below and tell me what is your go-to item in your camera bag!
